DACA Guide Chapter 3 Summary: President Trump Pushes to Repeal DACA
President Trump made no secret about his anti-immigration agenda from the beginning of his initial campaign for president in 2016. Along with promising to build a wall along the border with Mexico and having them pay for it, President Trump also promised tighter border security, ending the visa lottery, and tightening up restrictions on family-based immigration. Since many of President Trump’s proposals would not be successful Congress, he decided to push many of his immigration measures through the power of Executive Order. Some of President Trump’s most controversial Executive Orders included the Muslim travel ban, the Trump administration’s policy on separating families at the border, and the almost complete removal of ability to claim asylum. His Executive Order to repeal DACA is discussed in this chapter, along with Congress’s failed attempts to legislate a long-term solution for DREAMers.
